Homeowners are focusing on the trends when remodeling their kitchen, according to Houzz research. Kitchens will continue to be the heart of the home where homeowners invest most of their savings. They want it to be a showpiece where they will entertain their friends & family.
The popular look is the transitional-style kitchen, a combination of traditional and modern styles featuring Shaker cabinetry, contemporary light fixtures and large format, marble looking engineered stone.
The second most popular style is contemporary, a clean smooth look leaning towards minimilist with industrial features.
White cabinets are still leading the choice of color with grays following right behind. Wood cabinets are the second most desired.
Most homeowners who remodel prefer using quartz over granite because of its durability. Quartz is available in solid colors to compliment the more simple look of contemporary & transitional. Quartz was specified 88% of the time over granite’s 83% of the time by designers.
Ceramic or porcelain tiles, followed by engineered wood or laminate and hardwood are the popular materials for kitchen floors. Resilient vinyl flooring is also growing in popularity, particularly with aging baby boomers who prefer a textured floor that’s more slip-resistant.
