1.  Island provide informal & relaxed seating when you don’t have time to sit at the dining table.

2.  Ample square footage of counter space available, either for food preparation, serving space for buffet dining, or used as general space for hobbies, homework,etc.

3.  A well-placed island provides a gentle barrier between the busy cooking area and the guests who may congregate in the general vicinity.   Island seating should be on the outside of the island so they can watch and talk to the cook without being “in the way” of the action.
